- Encourage your Democratic state legislators to resist redistricting forcefully, and follow the example of Texas legislators to shut down the body’s ability to act. State legislators don’t get all that many letters and calls so even a few dozen would convince them to be on our side.
- Rally at the state capitol when redistricting plans are being debated, show them what will happen when they defy public opinion. If you can, get a permit, a stage and sound equipment.
- Contact the local news media to tell them what you will be doing, do not count on them showing up unless they are flattered and invited.
- Go to Canva, Just Yard Signs, Etsy or even FedEx and Staples to make signs for your protests and for your front yard. These can be ordered one at a time.
- Give a single dollar to the campaigns of the REPUBLICAN legislators, letting them know you’re out there and will vote against them if they persist. Nothing gets the attention of pols than money. Or give them $0.10 or even $0.01 if you can.
- Write letters to the editor, request public service announcements (PSAs) from your local television stations. For this your group may need to have a name.
- Sign up for WomansMarch.com, Mobilize.us, indivisible.org, FiftyFifty.one, Actionnetwork.org and TorpedoTrump.com or for the opposition Substacks, Facebook Groups and Websites so you are sure to be notified of future rallies.
- Use your holiday card e-mail list to reach out to people you know, urging them to take action.
- Make custom buttons at CustomButtons.com, BusyBeaver.net or StickerMule.com and wear them everywhere.
- Recruit and compensate a lawyer — virtually no local lawyers have any experience with election law — who can advise you, defend your rights to protest and carry forward your campaign against gerrymandering in court.
