First they came for the undocumented, with armed soldiers guarding the border although 3/4 of all foreigners who violate their visas fly here from all over the world.
Then they came for all Muslim-Americans under the false and immoral pretense they were defending American Jews.
Then they came for universities, independent thinkers and scholars whose intellectual inquiries were not limited to American-centered ideologies.
Then they came to crush cities where almost 90% of the Black population lived.
Then they came to rape and pillage any opponents of the regime who failed to submit to threats of blackmail against them.
Then they came to take voting rights away from American citizens.
Then they came to violate constitutional protections like free speech and assembly and elevated gun ownership to the preeminent right.
Then they came for all who longed for the republic they could see being put to death before their eyes while authoritarian rule was put in its place.
Then they came to embrace the fascist ideologies we had defeated in the Second World War.
Then they came for anyone registered to vote as a Democrat, and for Republicans refusing to cooperate with the dismantling of the American republic.
Then they came to intimidate the corporate media so their crimes and cover ups would not be exposed.
By the time they came for me I was on my own, undefended, unprotected, terrified and alone.
